In the U.S. real estate market there are several green building rating systems and guidelines currently competing to provide the definitive answer to this question. Of these different bodies, the most widely recognized program is the LEED® certification. Some of the other programs include Green Globes, administered by the Green Building Initiative, and the Federal Sustainable Buildings Principles.
MBMI Metal Buildings is dedicated to saving the environment while reducing energy costs and waste. This is why our products are environmentally sustainable and green in nature. In fact, steel buildings are one of the greenest structures on the planet. The steel used to manufacture our buildings are made from up to 60% recycled material. Once the building reaches its life-cycle or is no longer needed, 100% of the material can be recycled once again. Building with steel makes sense any way you look at.
MBMI Metal Buildings leading edge panel coatings are Energy Star approved. Very few companies in the industry offer such an advanced green product. Energy star qualified metal roofs are more reflective of the Sun's rays. Reflecting the Sun reduces the amount of heat transferred into a building, which reduces the amount of energy needed to air condition a building. Energy Star qualified roofs can reduce a building's peak cooling demand by 10-15 percent. Reducing a building's use of peak hour energy - the most expensive energy - can translate to an annual energy cost savings of up to 40%. You will save money on energy costs while lowering your carbon footprint.
Recycled material, energy savings, and solar systems are only a few examples of how MBMI strives to preserve the environment. Along with your cooperation, we can take the steps to a cleaner and more eco friendly future.
What is LEED?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
LEED® is an internationally recognized green building certification system. This system provides third-party verification that a building was designed and built using methods aimed at improving performance across several areas: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, and improved indoor environmental quality.
The LEED green building certifcation program is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings.
LEED was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED provides building owners and designers a concise guideline for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. It works throughout the building lifecycle - design and construction, operations and maintenance. And LEED for Neighborhood Development extends the benefits of LEED beyond the building footprint into the neighborhood it serves.
Who uses LEED?
Architects, real estate professionals, facility managers, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, construction managers, lenders and government officials all use LEED. These professions use LEED to help transform the built environment to environmental sustainability. State and local governments across the country are adopting LEED for public-owned and public-funded buildings; there are LEED initiatives in federal agencies, including the Departments of Defense, Agriculture, Energy, and State; and LEED projects are in countries worldwide.
